Basketball
consists of two different groups. The first group is an in-house
league which has 4 divisions: 1st & 2nd , 3rd
& 4th , 5th & 6th , and 7th
& 8th grades. All divisions except 7th & 8th
are coed. The program is 12 weeks with the focus being on
sportsmanship, fundamentals, and fun. The 1st and 2nd
grades are non-competitive. Their division is strictly based on
learning the fundamentals and having fun.
The travel
leagues consist of two boy teams 4th and 6th
grades. The teams play in a competitive league and will participate
in several tournaments. The program will conclude with an awards
banquet for all the children and adult volunteers that participated.
Our Football Program is designed to
benefit the children by offering them constructive activity, build
stronger family relationships, and keeping the youth out of
trouble. It is also designed to teach the children sportsmanship,
discipline, commitment, and how to have fun while working in a team
setting.
Our Football Programs utilizes
police officers, firemen, parents, and community volunteers to coach
the children. The football program consists of 182 boys ages 7-15.
We currently have 7 teams, which participate in two leagues. Our
teams participate in the Cleveland Municipal (Muny) League and The
Northeast Ohio Pop Warner League. We have 3 teams in the Muny
League (ages 8-10,11-12,13-15 years old). We have 4 teams in the
Pop Warner League. Two teams ages 7-9 and one team each of 10,11,12
years old.
The football program begins in July
and ends in November. The children practice 4 days a week for 2
hours each day until school start then practice is reduced to 3 days
per week for 2 hours each day. Football games are 1 hour each on
Saturdays or Sundays. Each division plays one game every weekend.
At the end of the local season championship games we take the teams
out of state to compete in National Football Competitions. This
gives some children the opportunity to go out of town to have fun,
to compete at a higher level, and get exposure to new places in the
United States when normally they would not have had that opportunity
to travel.
We have had
great success in our football program.
